PREPARING FOR PULMONARY FUNCTION TEST

If you are new to Pulmonary Function Testing, worry not – we are here to guide you from start to finish, ensuring smooth diagnosis and treatment. Here’s a list of do’s and don’ts of PF Test.

DO’s OF PULMONARY FUNCTION TESTING

Comfy Outfits
Wear loose clothing for your PFT. Tight outfits restrict breathing and can impact test accuracy.
Postpone If Sick
Flu, cold, or other illnesses affect test accuracy. Reschedule if you’re feeling unwell.
Arrive On Time
Arriving early ensures proper rest and preparation before your PFT begins.
Empty Your Bladder
PFT puts pressure on your abdomen. A full bladder may cause discomfort or interruptions.

DON’Ts OF PULMONARY FUNCTION TESTING

No Exercises
Avoid physical activity before your PFT. Exercise can distort test accuracy due to increased breathing rates.
No Smoking
Do not smoke for at least 2–3 hours before your test. A 24-hour gap is best for reliable lung function readings.
No Heavy Meals
Come with an empty stomach. Full meals can interfere with breathing during deep inhalation tests.
No Dentures
Remove dentures before the test to ensure proper airflow and accurate respiratory readings.
No Breathing Medications
Do not use breathing medications unless instructed. These can hide symptoms and skew test accuracy.
