Collingwood Hospital Unveils First MRI — Faster, Local Care for Patients

Say adios to long travel for MRI services, as Collingwood General and Marine Hospital (CGMH) launched its first MRI machine program, bringing ease of diagnostic access closer to home. The MRI establishment spans across 2000 square feet of the newly renovated hospital space. This new initiative not only provides swift and homely services to the patients but also ensures timely treatment through advanced diagnosis.

In the CGMH statement, Michael Lacroix, CGMH President and CEO, said, “We’re proud to open this new service to our community. This state-of-the-art technology delivers exceptional image quality, speed, and efficiency, all within a patient-friendly design. It reflects our ongoing commitment to investing in advanced tools that enhance patient care and create capacity to support both our clinical teams and the communities we serve.”

Jen Lauriault, the first patient who got scanned on this new machine, said, “Thanks to this advancement, I was able to have my appointment five months earlier than originally scheduled – without the added stress of leaving my community. It’s truly a game-changer for access to local healthcare.”

Dr. Murray Miller, Chief of Radiology, commented on the new MRI service at CGMH, saying, “This new service will allow CGMH to complete 5,500 MRI scans annually, significantly reducing regional wait times and providing patients faster access to critical diagnostics close to home. It’s a major step forward for healthcare in our community.”

Collingwood General and Marine Hospital (CGMH) extends their unwavering appreciation and gratitude to the provincial government for approving the introduction of advanced MRI services at hospitals across Ontario, Canada. The CGMH team also expressed their wholehearted thanks to the community and the CGMH Foundation for raising $5 million for this program, turning the awaited dream into a living reality for Canadians.

This initiative serves as a powerful testament, exhibiting the possibilities of happening when the community and the government unite and work together for a shared goal & vision.
